HAND SMOCKING: A TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUE

A signature technique, adopted from the very beginning of Pepa London; hand smocking.

At Pepa London, we pride ourselves on traditional and timeless childrenswear. Our ethos is to design heirloom pieces that can be worn and loved from generation after generation. Therefore, it is vital that our designs are not only made from the finest quality fabrics, but that are made to stand the test of time.

SIGNATURE HAND SMOCKING

Smocking is a traditional technique that has been practiced since the middle ages in garment making. It is an embroidery method of gathering fabric together, creating tight pleats, that can stretch and returns to its original form. A traditional technique that has been developed over time maintains a timeless and classic detail to a garment.

PEPA LONDON HAND SMOCKING

For childrenswear, this means comfortable garments that can be worn for all occasions. Due to it's timelessness and traditional technique, hand smocking was seen on one of Pepa London's very first designs. The technique was used by Pepa's own mother, in Spain, who hand smocked each garment, by-hand, adding the finest of details and bringing Pepa's vision to life. Still now, in our small factories in Spain, the same attention to detail and high quality smocking exists.

STARTING FROM A DRESS

A traditional Pepa London hand smocked design was first made onto a dress, fit for any little girl. Having adopted this technique from the very beginning, hand smocking has quickly developed into all categories Pepa London has to offer. Hand smocking offers a unique, timeless and luxury detail to the garment, made with love and highest attention to detail.
